Principal Character Artist & Senior Ballet Master with The Royal Ballet Company, Gary Avis MBE, led a one-day ‘Character Performance’ workshop for us teaching some extracts from Kenneth Macmillan’s beautiful ballet, Romeo & Juliet. Gary created roles for many of the world’s leading choreographers and has had the privilege of partnering many of the world’s great ballerinas, most notably a long dance partnership with Dame Darcey Bussell. Gary also performed with Darcey for the ‘Spirit of the Flame’ for the Closing Ceremony of the London Olympic Games. There’s just too much to say about Gary for this page, so you can read more about him here!
Here’s a taste of Gary’s amazing work and then some shots of him passing on his wealth of experience directly to us in all aspects of character building and performance - not forgetting his incredible sword fighting skills!
